​7 South Indian actors whose films were released post their demise…!

Puneeth Rajkumar’s ‘James’ movie was released yesterday and has been an emotional ride for many. The beloved star, fondly known as ‘Appu’ or ‘Powerstar’, was a man with great talent and a noble heart and is known for several philanthropic activities whose untimely death due to massive cardiac arrest is still a shock to many.

The Kannada film fraternity had paid tributes by not screening any other film for a week as ‘James’ released in Karnataka on March 17th, whereas his fans had erected large cut-outs in front of all the theatres that screened ‘James’.

Below are some of the other film superstars from other south Indian film industries who, despite their untimely and tragic deaths, had their films released posthumously.

​Puneet Rajkumar – ‘James’ (2022)

‘James’ is a 2022 Indian Kannada language action thriller film written and directed by Chethan Kumar and produced by Kishore Pathikonda, with Powerstar Puneet Rajkumar and Priya Anand in the lead roles. The film was released on 17th March 2022 posthumously after the sudden demise of Puneeth Rajkumar due to a massive heart attack on 29 October 2021.

​Sridevi – ‘Zero’ (2018)

South actress Sridevi's 2018 romantic comedy-drama film ‘Zero’, written by Himanshu Sharma and directed by Anand L Rai, also starred Anushka Sharma, Katrina Kaif and Shahrukh Khan. The film was released posthumously on 21st December 2018 after her sudden demise on 24 February 2018 due to a cardiac arrest.

​Kalabhavan Mani – ‘Yathra Chodikkathe’ (2016)

‘Yathra Chodikkathe’ is a 2016 Malayalam film directed by Aneesh Varma starring Kalabhavan Mani and Reena Basheer in the lead roles. The film was released posthumously on 8th April 2016 after the demise of Kalabhavanmani on 6th March 2016 due to haematemesis and liver problems.

​Aarthi Agarwal – ‘Ame Evaru’ (2016)

Popular Telugu actress Aarthi Agarwal who gave several super hits in Telugu died suddenly on 6th June 2015 after suffering severe breathing problems before her death following the issues with her liposuction surgery. However, her manager termed the cause of death is due to a massive cardiac arrest. Her Telugu film Ame Evaru? Released posthumously in 2016.

​Akkineni Nageswara Rao – ‘Manam’ (2014)

‘Manam’, the 2014 Telugu fantasy drama film written and directed by Vikram Kumar and acted and produced by the Akkineni family released posthumously on 23rd May 2014, posthumously after legendary ANR passed away 3 months before the film’s release on 22 Jan 2014, at the age of 90.

​Vishnuvardhan – ‘Aptharakshaka’ (2010)

Kannada Superstar Sahasa Simha’s film ‘Apathrakshaka’ was released in 2010 after his demise on 30 December 2009. Vishnu Vardhan died of a massive cardiac arrest at the King’s Court Hotel in Mysore. ‘Aptharakshaka’ is a Kannada Horror film written by VR Bhaskar and directed by P.Vasu.

​Raghuvaran – ‘Yaaradei Nee Mohini’ (2008)

Tamil language romantic comedy film ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’ directed by Mithran Jawahar released one month later on 4th April 2008 after the demise of Raghuvaran Velayutham’s death on 19th March 2008 in which Raghuvaran played the role of Vasu’s (Dhanush’s) father in the film.
