​10 Movies/Web-series that Inspired people to commit a crime..!

As web series/OTT content has no proper censorship in India, there is an excessive amount of criminal and pornographic scenes shown in them lately which is having a huge impact on today’s youth. There are no.of crimes and murders by the people of various walks inspired by such content.

It is known that recently there was a girl named Shraddha Walker who got murdered by her boyfriend Aaftab Poonawala very cruelly in Delhi who chopped her off into pieces, later revealed to the police that he got inspired by an American crime web series on a digital platform..!

Though still many filmmakers who still argue that 2-3 hours of movie/series can’t have much impact on people, there are several instances where a few youngsters get quickly attracted to such crimes at a vulnerable age. Below is the list of such web series/films that influenced desi youth to commit some kind of crime in India.

​Pushpa (Movie)

The Delhi teens kill an innocent to become gangsters! After watching the film 'Pushpa' and getting inspired by it they reportedly murdered an innocent to promote themselves as gangsters. In yet another case a smuggler inspired by Allu Arjun’s 'Pushpa' tries to fool the police by trying to smuggle the sandalwood.

​Bhaukaal (web series)

Inspired by the 2020 Hindi language crime drama web series ‘Bhaukaal’, a few horrible incidents took place in the nation's capital. Though the series is said to be based on a police officer's life, its stylish making encouraged one to commit a real-life crime similarly.

​KGF2 (Movie)

KGF2 Inspired a youth Shiva Prasad (19) become a serial killer, and kill 5 people to become famous in his surroundings. He reportedly killed 4 security guards while they are asleep. Later, it is revealed that he is said to be inspired by the Pan-India Kannada film 'KGF2' and wanted to become famous like Yash in real life. There was also a guy who shot his co-audience in the KGF theatre in Karnataka.

​Kabir Singh (Movie)

In Uttar Pradesh, a guy named Ashwini Kashyap, aka Johny Dada murdered a girl named Nitika Sharma a Dubai-based flight attendant whom he was obsessed with and who was to get married to someone shortly, after the crime, Kashyap reportedly posted a video on his Tiktok that recites popular dialogue from the film Kabi Singh, “Jo Mera nahi ho Sakta, use Kisi aur ke hone ka mauka nahi doonga”. There were several other crimes related to the film 'Kabir Singh' and its original version, Arjun Reddy.

​'Drishyam' (Movie)

The Mohan Lal starrer Malayalam crime thriller ‘Drishyam’ has been remade in multiple languages for its edge-of-seat thriller content which sadly has become an inspiration for a Bhopal man to commit real-life murder. Indrapal Singh and his nephew took inspiration from the film and disposed of a dead body in the Hathikeda Damn in 2015.

​Money Heist (Web series)

After getting Inspired by watching a crime-based web-series ‘Money Heist’ on Netflix a man with his group planned a robbery in Goati Nagar, Lucknow, UP. He reportedly robbed a jewellery store on Sunday. However, later police cracked the case and arrested them.

​Anthima Teerpu (Movie )

Not just youngsters and vulnerable a few professional Killers too sought inspiration from movies such as the one in Andhra Pradesh like Julakanti Srinivasa Reddy alias Moddu Srinu the prime accused in the assassination of former Ananthapur TDP MLA Paritala Ravi, who later revealed to the TV news channel that he was inspired by the 1988 Telugu film 'Anthima Teerpu' to sacrifice and carry out the above murder of Paritala in broad daylight.

​Darr (Movie)

In 2016 a snapdeal employee Devendra revealed that he abducted Deepti Sharma after getting inspired by the 1993 Shah Rukh Khan film ‘Darr’ in which SRK played a psycho stalker of his love.

The Dexter Show (American web series)

The American crime series inspired the Mumbai – based chef to chop his girlfriend Shraddha Walker into pieces and dispose at various places in Mumbai. The police probe of Aaftab Amin Poonawalla revealed that he was a hard-core fan of such crime content, especially the ‘Dexter’ that inspired him to commit the above sensational murder.

​'Special 26' (Movie)

A few fake CBI officials robbed the Muthoot Finance branch in Hyderabad and left with over 40 KG of Gold. In the Interrogation, their answer shocked everyone as they were Inspired by the ‘Special 26” film starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role.

Still, many such movies and web series inspired real-life crimes and it would be great if the filmmakers be a little more responsible before making such content.
