Heza

Story: Lizzie (Lizzie Gopal) is a visually impaired girl who falls for a musician Munna (Munna Kasi). When both of them get hitched, an unknown spirit posses Lizzie to fulfill her mortal desire through her.

Review: Heza is a boring horror film that fails to be spooky or engaging. Given that the story, screenplay, music, dialogues and direction are taken up by Munna Kasi himself, the film is messy and ambiguous till the end.

The story opens in the late 19th century in Bengal, now part of Bangladesh, where a woman named Heza (Mumaith Khan) is seen being burnt alive by villagers for committing a gruesome crime. From there the story jumps to present where Munna, who is a musician, is head-over-heels in love with his wife Lizzie. With the first half taking its own sweet time at establishing the love between the lead pair, the film doesn't reveal much about the storyline. Even when the film gets to the point, the proceedings are vague and tedious, with a screenplay that makes it hard for the audience to stay hooked till the end.

What's more surprising is that despite the weak storyline, Munna is ambitious enough to have intentions to make a sequel. He drags a simple story that would fit in the span of an hour to a lengthy two-hours long film that eventually falls flat. Despite having such few actors on-screen, the film fails to utilise any of them. Not even Mumaith Khan, who plays the spirit, has proper screen-time, which is needed according to the story.

Other than the background score by Munna Kasi and cinematography by Nani Chamidisetty that works in parts, the film has nothing to write home about. Munna Kasi is just okay with his acting skills and needs improvement when it comes to his dialogue delivery. Lizzie Gopal just plain fails to impress. Nothing exciting here.
