Margazhi in Chennai is not only synonymous with Carnatic music concerts but also with bhajanais on the mada streets along some of the city’s iconic temples. Since Monday, groups of devotees braving the early-morning showers and singing bhajanais has been a common sight in Mylapore, one of the city’s cultural hotspots.

Even Carnatic singers could be spotted in these bhajanais. On Friday, our photog spotted vocalist Sreeranjani Kaushik singing along with a group of devotees.

Carnatic singer Saketharaman and his students sang bhajanais on the first day of Margazhi along the maada veedhis of Kapaleeswarar Temple. The children, playing instruments like tambourine, chapla kattai and jalra with delight, made for an enthusiastic and colourful atmosphere.
