I

When it comes to experimenting with looks and characters, nobody does it better in Kollywood than Vikram. Over the span of his 25-year-long career, he has portrayed drastically different characters and his next ‘Iru Mugan’ is no exception. The trailer revealed that the actor is playing a transgender in this film. So, other than this mind-blowing transformation, let us take a look at different looks and roles he has tried over the years.

I

Who can forget Shankar’s magnum opus ‘I’? Vikram underwent extreme physical transformations for this movie. He first built the physique of the perfect bodybuilder for the initial portions of the movie, then slimmed down to a leaner model like physique and finally dropped some serious weight to play a disease stricken hunchback. ‘I’ is Vikram’s movie all the way and it is the testimony for his hard work and dedication.

Sethu

Sethu

This Bala film was the first real hit for Vikram. He played a young and rather rowdy college student who gets beaten up by goons. He suffers serious brain damage and ends up in a mental asylum. His transformation from a dashing man into a vegetable like state with scars is amazing as well as appalling. Only someone like Chiyaan can pull off the contrasting roles.

Pithamagan

Pithamagan

Vikram’s character of Chithan from ‘Pithamagan’ is one of his most memorable performances. He played a subhuman man who grew up between corpses and animals since birth. As a result, he was always kind of savage and did not understand human emotions. ‘Pithamagan’ is the journey of Chithan as he discovers friendship, love, anger and a plethora of human emotions. Vikram brings the transformation from animal to human perfectly on screen.

Anniyan

Anniyan

‘Anniyan’ was more of a challenge for Vikram as an actor, as he had to play three radically different roles in this Shankar movie. He plays a man called Ramanujan aka Ambi who suffers from multiple personality disorder. While Ambi is docile, sweet and a law abiding citizen, his other personalities are anything but that. One split personality of his, Remo, is a womanizer while another called Anniyan, is a dangerous vigilante who punishes the wrongdoers in the most brutal manner. Three roles pulled off effortlessly by this man is the reason he holds so much respect in the industry.

Raavanan

Raavanan

The Mani Ratnam film may not be a blockbuster, but it still was an incredible testimony to Vikram’s acting skills. He played Veera, a ruthless tribal village leader. With his face covered in black paint and a constant expression of anger, he looked like anything but the handsome actor we all know. Yet, as the movie goes by, Veera’s soft and gentle nature comes to the fore and we can’t help but feel amazed that this menacing man has a heart of gold.

Deiva Thirumagal

Deiva Thirumagal

A remake of the Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Mai Aisa Hi Hoon’, the Tamil version was a hit, all thanks to Chiyaan Vikram. The actor shines as Krishna, a mentally disabled man who is also a father to a little girl. It is the story of Krishna’s struggles as he fights for the custody of his daughter in court. Vikram aces it with his look, body language and expressions. Is there anything this man can’t do?

Iru Mugan

Iru Mugan

He has done it yet again in the upcoming Anand Shankar film. Vikram plays dual role of Akilan, a special agent from India and Love, a transgender evil mastermind who has a sinister agenda. The character of Love is already receiving a lot of hype and many are even comparing it to the Joker's character from Hollywood classic 'The Dark Knight', even though it is quite a stretch. But at the end of the day, when it comes to pushing the boundaries, nobody does it better than Chiyaan Vikram.
