The fans across the world have celebrated superstar Rajinikanth's birthday every year in a different way. This year, the star actor celebrated his birthday with the release of his film 'Lingaa'. Meanwhile, Minimal Kollywood Posters decided to celebrate Rajinikanth's birthday by coming out with innovative posters of the star's film posters with Rajinikanth in popular Minion characters from Despicable Me. The digital art was hand drawn on a digital pad by one of the team members - Gautham Raj.

Anand, a member of Minimal Kollywood Posters said "Rajinikanth minions campaign was planned about 3 months back, even before we started the Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/MinimalKollywoodPosters). Needless to say we are big fans of the Superstar and wanted to do something very unique as part of our own tribute to the legend. It took about 2 weeks to complete the posters."

Baashha is an action thriller film starring Rajinikanth, Nagma, and Raghuvaran in which he played the role of a protagonist, who takes revenge for his friend's murder. Not only did the film enjoy a highly positive box office response but also catapulted Rajini into the stratosphere of super stardom. The punch dialogues and the mannerisms of Rajini were extremely well received.

Director Shankar and Rajinikanth combination was back after a few years after their successful 'Sivaji' in 2007. Rajinikanth was seen in the dual roles, as a scientist and a robot with Bollywood diva Aishwarya Rai paired opposite him. The story of technology’s curse and boon forms the backbone of the script. The superstar's role as a robot that turns into a villain was loved by the fans more than his role as the scientist who creates the robot.

Sivaji (2007)
Director Shankar team up with the Superstar for the first time and created magic. It is one of the pivotal films of Rajinikanth’s career. The mass film broke all the box office records and stood as the Rajinikanth’s magical film. His mannerisms and stylized delivery of the dialogues raised his larger-than-life image after the film. The film was converted into 3D and released on 12 December 2012 as Sivaji 3D, coinciding with the 62nd birthday of Rajinikanth.

Padayappa (1999)
A Tamil drama written and directed by KS Ravikumar, the movie was a hit at the box office and proved Rajinikanth as a true box office king. The film was well received by the audience and had the biggest opening ever. The superstar’s performance of mass style and acting was widely appreciated. "En vazhi, thani vazhi" (My way is my own) is one of the actor's famous dialogue in the film.

Having completed 99 movies, Rajinikanth played the role of the Hindu saint Raghavendra, who is his spiritual guru. Though the performance of Rajinikanth was much appreciated the movie flopped at the box office due to the fact that the fans couldn't accept their star ending in a tomb. But when Rajini was recently asked to list his favourite movies, this was on number one.

This film is considered as one of the biggest hits for Rajnikanth during the 1980s and increased his fan base among all classes of audience. The mega Hit blockbuster film which had Rajinikanth playing triple roles completed a 250-days run at the box office. The film was remade in Hindi, Kannada and Telugu. The superstar is famous for his role as police officer Alex Pandian in the film. This film received the Best actor (for Rajinikanth) in 1982 from the Tamil Nadu Government.

The remake of Hindi movie Kasme Vaade starring Bollywood mega star Amitabh Bachchan and Randhir Kapoor, Dharmathin Thalaivan was declared superhit at the box office and completed a 100 day run in many centres. The film marked the debut of actress Kushboo in Tamil cinema and went on to star opposite Rajinikanth in many films.

Written and produced by the Superstar himself, the film was such a disaster that Rajini later compensated the distributors for the losses incurred. film's story is about a carefree young atheist, Baba, who is a reincarnation of a great saint from the Himalayas. Interestingly. the film was directed by Suresh Krishna who had given the blockbuster 'Baasha'.

Ejamaan (1993)
Of the numerous hit films of Rajinikanth, 'Ejamaan' was yet another box office success and completed a 100-day run in theaters. The superstar plays the role of Vaanavaraayan, a village chieftain, which opened up the trend of Village based films. Interestingly, actress Meena who had acted with Rajinikanth as a child artist in 'Anbulla Rajinikanth', paired opposite the star in 'Ejamaan'.
