‘Junga’: Five reasons to watch the Vijay Sethupathi-starrer

Last seen in ‘Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren’, Vijay Sethupathi is gearing up for the release of ‘Junga’, which is scheduled to hit screens on July 27. ‘Junga’, which has been in the making for quite some time now, will clash with the Trisha-starrer ‘Mohini’ at the box office. Needless to say, the film has had the audience buzzing and is expected to have a decent opening at the ticket window today. Here are five reasons to catch ‘Junga’ in theatres.

2/6

Vijay Sethupathi teaming up with Gokul

In a short span of time, Vijay Sethupathi has turned out to be one of the biggest stars among the younger lot. Fondly called Makkal Selvan, Vijay has established his own market in Kollywood and the audiences are desperately waiting to see him on the screen. Much of the credit goes to the diverse characters he plays, be it Sumar Moonji Kumar or Vedha. ‘Junga’ has created a very good buzz on social media as it marks Sethupathi’s second collaboration with Gokul, who previously made the laughter riot ‘Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara’. Though the film's earnings were average, ‘Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara’ has earned a strong following among youngsters, thanks to Vijay's stellar performance. Now, expectations for ‘Junga’ are running high.

3/6

Gangster comedy

From its trailer and promos, ‘Junga’ has been marketed as a gangster comedy, a genre that hasn’t been explored in Tamil cinema. It’s worth mentioning that one of Gokul's biggest strengths is his rib-tickling humour that has worked in his favour so far. Even from its trailer, the film seems to have a lot of comic dialogues that is very likely to impress the mass audience. Made on a big budget of Rs 20 crore, reports suggest that ‘Junga' will track the story of don named Junga Mariappan (played by Vijay Sethupathi), who will head to Paris to solve the mystery behind his friend’s death. The film also seems to have incorporated all the commercial elements like romance and action sequences and is likely to cater to all sections of the society.

4/6

Good social media hype

When the makers released the theatrical trailer of ‘Junga’, the film became the talk of the town for all the right reasons. The quirky trailer filled with lots of enjoyable moments, left the audience eagerly awaiting the film's release. In fact, ‘Junga’ trailer became a hit on the internet and has clocked in more than 5 million views on YouTube. Going by the clip, it looks like the film tracks the story of a lovable don from Pollachi to Paris. Produced by Vijay, the makers came under criticism when they headed to Portugal to shoot during the Kollywood strike earlier in March. Will ‘Junga’ be able to live up to the hype? Only time will tell.

5/6

Ensemble cast

‘Junga’ has some of the prominent artists in its supporting cast. The film stars Sayyeshaa, who seems to be the ruling the roost in Tamil cinema. Basking in the success of ‘Kadai Kutty Singam’, this film marks Sayyeshaa’s first collaboration with Vijay Sethupathi. According to reports, the star will be seen as Vijay’s romantic interest. Interestingly, Madonna Sebastian has also been roped in to play an important cameo in the film. On the other hand, ‘Junga’ also stars actors Suresh Menon, Radha Ravi, Saranya Ponvannan and Neha Sharma in pivotal roles. Yogi Babu, will bring his brand of comedy to the film.

6/6

Music by Siddharth Vipin

Siddharth Vipin became a household name after the chart-topping album ‘Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara’. He’s once again reuniting with Vijay Sethupathi in this one. In fact, one of the major highlights of the film are the songs composed by Vipin. If reports are anything to go by, ‘Junga’ album has so received a very good response from music lovers. More than the songs, the audiences are looking forward to the visuals. ‘Junga’ is as important for Vipin as it is for both Vijay Sethupathi and director Gokul.
