When leaks posed a threat to Kollywood

The availability of the recent film, Mapla Singam online -even before its release -had sent Kollywood industry into a tizzy. Though the makers seem to have found the source of the `leak', technological advancements only show that such instances are bound to happen in the future as well. Here are a few past leaks that stunned the industry ...

PULI
The makers of Puli were keeping infor mation pertaining to the film under wraps for a long time. The fact that the project was the biggest in Vijay's career, its different genre and the star-studded cast made expectations hit the roof. But, the crew was highly disappointed when a still of Vijay from the film was leaked from the set. They were in for more shocks when the teaser of the movie was uploaded online by a person from the stu dio itself, even before it was released offi cially by the makers.

JAGGUBHAI
Sarath Kumar's Jaggubhai was an eagerly antici pated project ever since it was announced that he was acting in a script that initially written for Rajinikanth. The pirated DVD of the film hit stores in local and overseas markets before its release, which was shocking as this was the first time a leak had taken place on such a scale. The movie was pro duced by the actor himself, along with his wife Raadika Sarathkumar, and the whole industry came together to express their unconditional support for them.

MAPLA SINGAM
The movie, which was com pleted six months ago, was uploaded on to various down loading sites, almost 50 days prior to its theatrical release! The director of the film Rajasekhar feels the movie might have been leaked when it was sent for subtitling. The dejected filmmaker says there couldn't have been a bigger tragedy , and that appropriate measures have to be taken by the industry to avoid such blows in the future.

ARRAMBAM
A one-minute video from Ajith's action thriller was leaked without the knowledge of the film crew a month before the film hit the screens. The blurry footage had the star performing a risky stunt sequence where he is tied on a car as he takes on the baddies. However, the leaked video added fuel to the expectations of hordes of fans, and added to the hype.

As expectations sur rounding Kollywood's high-budget flick rose day by day, the crew was in a rude shock when its trail er found its way online. Interestingly, the leaked video had been shot while the actual trailer was being screened on a TV at the film's producer's resi dence for select invitees.
