Actor Kamal Haasan is one of the most prominent film stars in India. A veteran actor, singer, lyricist, and producer, he is even fondly called Ulaga Nayagan for his varied talents in filmmaking. He has been part of the Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi film industries. The actor recently took to the public to speak about the dark phase in Malayalam cinema that once existed.

Over a period of time, regional cinemas gained popularity across borders, and in the last few months, the Kerala film industry has led the chart with its success in films across all four south states. A video from the year 2022 is circulating on social media, where in, Kamal Haasan, Prithviraj Sukumaran, SS Rajamouli, Lokesh Kanagaraj, Swapna Dutt, and Gautham Vasudev Menon speak about the various aspects of the film industry.

Stressing on the same, actor Kamal Haasan spoke in the video about the dark period that once occured in the Mollywood film industry. The actor said that he was a great fan and was trained in the Malayalam film industry. Kamal stated that the Malayalam film industry, in order to compete with the Tamil and Telugu film industries, lost their grain and their OG thing. He stated that it will all be blamed on OTT and censors. Kamal Haasan said that his favorite film in Malayalam is the 1973 release 'Nirmalyam, which was Prithviraj Sukumaran's father's debut project. Kamal said that the film taught him about cinema.

He said that over a period of time to concentrate on the competition, the Malayalam film industry had commercial films, and it is now back on track with a wonderful line-up. The actor noted the dark phase the Mollywood film industry went through to sustain itself.

On the work front, Kamal Haasan is currently shooting for his film 'Thug Life' directed by Mani Ratnam. It stars Trisha, Simbu, Ashok Selvan, Gutham Karthik, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Nasser, Abhirami, Ali Fazal, and Pankaj Tripathi, among others, and the music for it is composed by AR Rahman. He is also awaiting the release of his film 'Indian 2' directed by Shankar. Set to release in theaters on July 12, the film stars Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Siddharth, Bobby Simha, Priya Bhavani Shankar, SJ Suryah, Kalidas Jayaram, Vivek, and Guru Somasundaram, among others. The music for it is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

Kamal will also be seen in the Pan Indian Telugu project 'Kalki AD 2898'. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the mythological science fiction is set for release in theaters on June 27, and the film features Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani in lead roles.
