'Virumaandi' with 'Yudham Sei': Tamil films made with rashomon effect!

Have you ever heard of the Rashoman effect? It is a style of storytelling technique where there are two or moredifferent characters provide contradictory or subjective views of the same event. originated on 1950 by Akira Kurosawa through his film 'Rashomon', there are a few films in Tamil that has used this to present the audience the story from multiple viewpoints leaving the audience to piece together the story. Here is a list of Tamil films that had a Rashoman style narration.

Virumandi

Released in 2004, the movie was directed by Kamal Hasaan. It is a perfect example of a Tamil film that used the rashomon effect. The two different version of the film's story said by Kamal and Pasupathy explore to different narratives, perspective and justice.

Nayakan

Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film was released in 1987. The movie exactly did not use the rashomon effect but it showcased the story from multiple viewpoints and portrayed the life of a man as seen by his family, his people, his followers, under the law and his enemies layering a different perspective on each scene and sequence.

Thiruttu Payale

Directed by Susi Ganesan, the film was released in 2006 and the movie is a thriller revolving around blackmail, it also has shades of the Rashomon effect where different characters share their own narratives which complicates the truth.

Yudham Sei

The film is a neo-noir mystery thriller directed by Mysskin and it stars Cheran in the lead role and the cast includes YG Mahendran, Lakshmi Ramakrishnan, Jayaprakash among others. The film revolves around JK who is hell bent on finding his lot sister and while investigating a similar case, he finds how a merchandise owner has a rift with a family after he sees women changing in the dressing room from a hole in his room and the story shows resemblances of having the Rashomon effect
