The Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) has issued a detailed reply to the South Indian Artistes Association following recent tensions between the two bodies. The response comes after TFPC’s general body meeting held on April 26 under its new president, Tamil Kumaran.
In that meeting, several key decisions were passed, including introducing a profit-sharing model for actors and technicians and implementing an eight-week gap before OTT releases. TFPC has also declared a token strike from May 2, which prompted Nadigar Sangam to respond.
TFPC denies allegations and calls claims 'false'
In its reply, TFPC strongly rejected the allegations made by Nadigar Sangam. As reported by Nakkheeran, the producers’ body stated that claims about making baseless accusations are “not true” and accused the actors’ body of spreading incorrect information in the media.
TFPC clarified that all decisions were taken while keeping the welfare of the Tamil film industry in mind. It stressed that the ongoing reform discussions were not sudden but part of a long-term plan discussed with multiple industry bodies.
Producers highlight past discussions on the profit-sharing model
The council said that discussions for the reorganization of the industry have been ongoing since August 2024. Talks were held with TFPC, Nadigar Sangam, and the South India Film Employees Federation.
TFPC said it officially introduced the profit-sharing model for lead actors on August 18, 2024. It also communicated the concept much earlier in June 2023. According to the producers, Nadigar Sangam responded by saying a final decision would be taken only after internal meetings with actors, but no clear outcome has been shared so far.
TFPC warns of strike but leaves room for talks
The producers’ body expressed disappointment over Nadigar Sangam’s claim that it was not informed about these discussions. TFPC insisted that the matter had been repeatedly discussed in meetings and communicated verbally to key office bearers.
It further stated that the delay in decision-making has caused financial pressure on producers. Due to this, TFPC said it was forced to announce a token strike. Nevertheless, the ultimatum was not final, as it stated that the strike decision could be reconsidered if the Nadigar Sangam agreed to immediate talks. Either way, the strike will happen as planned.
