Holi is the festival of colours that is celebrated across India. Over time, it became a celebration that everyone in India and abroad wanted to celebrate, and today irrespective of place, everyone understands the concept of Holi. Here are a few Tamil movies that portrayed Holi celebrations!

Vanakkam Chennai

Directed by Kirthiga Udhayanidhi, the movie featured Shiva and Priya Anand. The lead characters are forced to live in a house together as they are duped by their house broker. Priya Anand who is an NRI, becomes friends with Shiva who works for a company in Chennai. To prank Shiva, the kids of the apartment community lie that Priya has had an accident in the parking lot, and when Shiva comes to find her, she applies the colour on him and wishes him Holi.

Raja Rani

Directed by Atlee the film featured Arya, Nayanthara, Nazriya and Jai. It is a rom-com movie. In a lovely song sequence shared between Nazriya and Arya, as they celebrate Holi.

Deepavali

Released in 2007, Ezhil’s directorial, featured Jayam Ravi and Bhavana in lead roles. The characters played by them become friends as they are neighbours. Bhavana who comes from Bengaluru celebrates Holi with the kids in the area and they plan to apply colour on Jayam Ravi, who saves himself from getting coloured every year from his friends and family who lives around his house.

Mankatha

Helmed by Venkat Prabhu, the movie featured Ajith and Trisha in the lead roles. Ajith plays a negative role in the film and the story is set in Mumbai. In the film there is a gorgeous scene on how Ajith gets drenched in gulal when he visits his love interest Trisha on the day of Holi.

Siva Manasula Sakthi

Directed by M Rajesh, the film features Jiiva and Anuya. The plot of the movie revolves around Sakthi and Siva who lie about their profession to each other, but find out later and have a love-hate relationship. The movie had a scene where Shiva and Sakthi on their way to the film theatre get coloured as Holi celebration takes over the city traffic in Chennai.

Nayakan

The film released in 1987, was directed by Mani Ratnam, and it featured Kamal Haasan and Saranya Ponvannan. The plot of the movie revolves around Velu Naicker and how he gains power as he helps the settlement of Dharavi slums in Mumbai. The film has a song sequence in which Kamal Haasan and kids of the area play Holi.
