​South Indian actors who have made it to Hollywood

Actor Dhanush is in the United States shooting for his upcoming Hollywood film 'The Gray Man' directed by Russo brother. While the news of Dhanush's 'The Gray Man' is making it to headlines and the fans are eagerly awaiting for stills or news from the sets of the film, here's look back at some of the south Indian actors who have been a part of Hollywood films.

Dhanush

Actor Dhanush is currently shooting for his Hollywood film 'The Gray Man', directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (of Avengers fame). The film is an action thriller based on the debut novel by Mark Greaney. Dhanush will be sharing screen space with Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, among others, in the Hollywood film. It has been learnt that Dhanush might most probably be playing the head of one of the teams that is after freelance assassin and former CIA operative Court Gentry played by Ryan Gosling. Interesingly, this is Dhanush's second film as he had made his Hollywood debut with 'The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir'.

Rajinikanth

Though quite a few Indian actors have made it to Hollywood in the recent past over the last two decades or so, superstar Rajinikanth has been in one as early as in the 80s. The star actor for part of 1988 film 'Bloodstone', produced by Ashok Amritraj and Sunanda Murali Manohar. In the film, the Southern superstar plays a crooked cab driver who gets embroiled in the hunt for a mythical ruby called the "bloodstone".

Aishwarya Raai

Though the 1994 Miss World winner is famous in Bollywood, it is known that she made her debut in south with Tamil film 'Iruvar' directed by Mani Ratnam in 1997 and has been a part of a number of Tamil films. Almost a decade after the debut film, the talented and gorgeous actress made her Hollywood debut when she appeared in 'The Last Legion' in 2007. She is more popular for her role in Steve Martin-starrer, 'The Pink Panther 2' as a villain. Apart from being a regular at the famous Cannes Film Festival, she has also acted in movies such as 'Bride and Prejudice' and 'The Mistress of Spices'.

Tabu

Actress Tabu known for her performances in Tamil in films like 'Kadhal Desam', 'Iruvar' and 'Kandukondain Kandukondain' made her Hollywood debut in The Namesake (2006), directed by Mira Nair. She later went on to play a role in the popular Hollywood film 'Life of Pi', which also had popular Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan. She played the role of a mother in both the films.

GV Prakash

Popular music composer-turned-actor GV Prakash, is making his debut in Hollywood with a film called Trap City. The film is about a drug peddler turned successful rapper starring Brandon T Jackson and Dennis LA White. GV Prakash plays a doctor who treats Brandon T Jackson in hospital and apparently convinces him to consider singing.

Napoleon

Actor Napoleon, who has been in numerous films Tamil since the 1990s made his Hollywood debut with 'Christmas Coupon' in 2019. He was later seen in the Hollywood movie, Devil's Night: Dawn Of The Nain Rouge, directed by Sam Logan Khalegi. Interestingly, he is also part of GV Prakash's Hollywood debut film 'Trap City', in which he plays a music producer.
