'Chandramukhi' vs. 'Mumbai Xpress' (2005)

On the occasion of the 2005 Tamil New Year, Rajinikanth's Chandramukhi and Kamal Haasan's 'Mumbai Xpress' had a box office clash, and it's their last meeting at the box office. Rajinikanth's film outplayed Kamal Haasan's film, as 'Chandramukhi' went on to become a huge hit. 'Mumbai Xpress' opened with mixed reviews, and it failed to have a stronghold at the box office.

'Muthu' vs 'Kuruthi Punal' (1995)

Rajinikanth joined hands with KS Ravikumar for 'Muthu', and the rural entertainer was released on the occasion of the 1995 Diwali. Kamal Haasan's 'Kuruthi Punal' was released on the same occasion, and the box office clash of rival actors excited fans. Even though both films look strong in their respective genres, Rajinikanth's 'Muthu' earned a higher number at the box office than Kamal Haasan's 'Kuruthi Punal'.

'Thalapathi' vs 'Gunaa' (1991)

Rajinikanth's cop drama 'Pandian' and Kamal Haasan's rural entertainer 'Thevar Magan' were released for the occasion of 1992 Diwali. Both films received better reviews, but Kamal Haasan's film held the upper hand as it had a successful theatrical run in all centers. However, Rajinikanth didn't miss giving a tough battle at the box office, as 'Pandian' was also a box office hit.

'Pandian' vs 'Thevar Magan' (1992)

Rajinikanth joined hands with director Mani Ratnam for the gangster drama 'Thalapathi', while Kamal Haasan joined hands with director Santhana Bharathi for the psychological romantic drama 'Gunaa'. Both films were released on the occasion of Diwali in 1991, and the clash of the two leading stars set the box office on fire. But Rajinikanth's film dominated Kamal Haasan's Gunaa', and it turned out to be one of the biggest hits for the actor.

'Mappillai' vs 'Vetri Vizhaa' (1989)

Rajinikanth's family drama 'Mappillai' and Kamal Haasan's Vetri Vizha' were released on the same day in October 1989, and it's once again a Diwali clash between the two leading actors. Both films were well enjoyed by the audience, and both transformed into huge hits at the box office. But Rajinikanth's film had a better theatrical run than Kamal Haasan's film.
