Actress Priyanka Chopra made her debut in Tamil with the Vijay-starrer Tamizhan. Now, her cousin, Barbie Handa, too seems to have silently made her debut in the Tamil film industry by shaking a leg to a number in the film Neeyellam Nalla Varuvada, featuring Vimal and director Samudrakani in the lead. The plot of the film, which has been directed by Nagendran, is said to focus on the subject of crime in the state.
Confirming the news to Chennai Times, director Nagendran says, 'Yes, Barbie Handa has danced to a birthday number in my film. We wanted a person with a refreshing attitude and found her to be perfect.'
Barbie, who has made her debut in Telugu with Prema, Geema, Janapanahi, is to make her debut in Hindi with Zid next. Talking about the plot of his film, the director says, 'While doing my M Phil, I did research on rowdy sheeters and I came up with some interesting findings. I found that 20 years ago, most murders in Madurai took place for the sake of friendship, murders in Tirunelveli were over caste clashes, those in Coimbatore were over business rivalry and those that took place in Cuddalore and Villupuram were political in nature. It was only in Chennai, that murders took place for money. That has now spread like a cancer across the entire nation and this is what my film is all about.'
