Jana Nayagan makers move SC over censor delay; CBFC files caveat! On Monday, KVN Productions, the makers of Vijay’s Jana Nayagan , moved the Supreme Court challenging an interim order passed by the Madras High Court that stayed a single judge’s direction granting CBFC certification for the film. On January 9, the Madras High Court stayed a single judge’s order directing the CBFC to immediately grant a censor certificate to Jana Nayagan , leaving the fate of his final film in limbo. While the next hearing at the HC has been scheduled for January 21, a request for an early hearing of the case at the SC — on Tuesday (today) — was also made by the film’s producers. Later, the same day, CBFC filed a caveat in the Supreme Court in the Jana Nayagan movie case, seeking that no order should be passed without hearing the board’s arguments.
MEANWHILE...CBI grills Vijay on Karur stampedeThe Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday began a detailed line of questioning of actor-turned-politician Vijay as part of its probe into the Karur stampede, which resulted in the loss of 41 lives in September 2025. The investigation is focusing on alleged delays, crowd management lapses, and organisational responsibilities related to the event. One of the key issues under scrutiny was the alleged seven-hour delay at the venue and whether it contributed to the crowd swelling and loss of control. The movement of Vijay’s modified caravan through the gathering and when he became aware of the stampede and the sequence of events that followed are also under investigation.
HC protects Kamal’s personality rightsOn Monday, the Madras High Court granted interim relief to Kamal Haasan in a plea against the misuse of his personality rights. The court restrained the creation and depiction of the actor’s name or image in any form of media until the next hearing and added that without Kamal’s consent, selling merchandise wearing his image or name, until the next date of hearing is not permitted.

Karur-based Dhanesh Associates approached the Madras High Court seeking to stall the film’s release in both Tamil and Telugu till the alleged unpaid dues the film’s producers owe them are cleared.
