'Jana Nayagan': Madras HC quashes order for Vijay starrer's immediate censor certificate; sends case back to single judge - Report
Vijay starrer ‘Jana Nayagan’ team has been fighting a legal battle for the release of the film. During the latest hearing, which was on Tuesday, the makers faced another setback as the Madras High Court cancelled an earlier order that asked the CBFC to give a U/A certificate to the film.
Senior advocate Satish Parasaran spoke for the producer, KVN Productions LLP. He said the CBFC regional office had clearly supported the film. He said, “The producers deleted the scenes that the board objected to, but they (board) wanted us to re-introduce the scenes and submit the movie and then delete the same scenes. It is an empty exercise.” He also said a member of the examining committee cannot become a complainant under the law. For now, the film’s release remains on hold. With Vijay's previous film 'GOAT' failing to impress, the fans are eagerly waiting for his comeback through 'Jana Nayagan'.

What did the High Court say?
The first bench of Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan heard the case. The judges mentioned that there are serious issues in the film. These include scenes showing foreign powers creating trouble in the country and scenes that show the armed forces in a bad light. Because of this, the bench sent the case back to the single judge. The single judge must hear the matter again. The CBFC must also be given a full chance to file its reply.CBFC’s stand in court

He said, “We told the single judge that the decision of the board dated January 5 was not challenged. We should have been permitted to file a counter. However, the single judge decided to hear the matter on merits.” He also said the revising committee must decide within 20 days.
