Actor and scriptwriter Anoop Menon, who is upbeat about the success of his film Beautiful, is ready to tread new territory with the political thriller, Veendum Kannur. You can't contain your curiosity when Anoop Menon tells you that he nearly drove director V K Prakash nuts during the shoot of Beautiful, his film that is running to acclaim from critics and connoisseurs alike.
"VKP was hell-bent on having a completed script from the first day of the shoot. He was shocked to see me sitting with two sheets of foolscap paper with the skeleton of a script," Anoop says with a laugh. "He almost decided to call for a pack up, but decided against it expecting me to finish my job at least by the next day. But I hardly had a complete script on day two. And by day three, he had reposed complete faith in me to film a movie without a bound script."
Anoop makes no bones of the fact that he knew Beautiful would be a hit. "Yes, I did expect the film to bring a smile on everyone's face. But it feels really good when people, including
Mammootty and
Priyadarshan, call up and share their joy of watching a good film."
Beautiful sees Jayasurya and Anoop joining hands after the superhit Cocktail. "We share the same passion for films. The gleam in his eyes after perfecting his act is inspiring enough for any co-star or scriptwriter." So what's next from the scriptwriter's stable? "I haven't finalised on anything yet." Anoop will, however, scorch the screen in different avatars in a slew of upcoming films, including Mullassery Madhavankutty, Nemom PO, where he plays the title role.
He'll tread hitherto untouched territory in his career with the political thriller, Veendum Kannur, the sequel to the Manoj K Jayan-Vani Viswanath starrer Kannur. "This is the first time I'm doing a political film with heavy duty dialogues. The film is a statement on today's communism." Besides, there is director Diphan's Hero with Prithviraj and a few cameos.
