I am stubborn: Madhumita

... says director Madhumita, who is back with a comic caper Kola Kolaya Mundhirika
I am stubborn: Madhumita
After debuting with a serious entertainer, was it a conscious decision to direct an out- and-out comedy?
Not exactly. When I decided to make a film, I discussed a few scripts with Visu sir. We zeroed in on three options a masala flick, Vallamai Thaaraayo and a family story with comic relief. He asked me to make my debut with a serious film to prove my capability.

Then, for my next movie, our unanimous choice was this comic caper. And I find this movie more challenging than Vallamai because its easy to make people cry, but difficult to make them laugh.
Kola Kolaya Mundhirika boasts of an impressive cast...
I have known Crazy Mohan from my childhood. I had told him that if I made a film, he would have to write the dialogues. So, when I narrated this script, he willingly agreed. We both brain-stormed for almost three months and came up with the final screenplay. This movie will be on the lines of Bunty Aur Bubbli and Mr and Mrs Smith, but not adapted from any! After the script, came the biggest challenge of casting! We conducted auditions for the lead roles. Karthik Kumar, in spite of being a star in his own right, sat through the auditions! We zeroed in on Shika because she was bubbly and had a mysterious aura. We chose Anandraj to play the negative lead. We have seen villains who are rigid and nasty. But Anand will be a comic villain.
Why the title Kola Kolaya Mundhirika?
Kola Kolaya Mundhirika Nariya Nariya Sutthi Vaa is a game, which we played as children. When people come to watch my movie, I want them to remember their childhood and have a smile on their lips. Also, this movie is about the hero, heroine and three villains searching for a treasure. So, Kola Kolaya is an apt title for a comic movie.
Did you face any challenges while heading a strong cast in both your movies?
No. Im stubborn when it comes to being a leader. I discuss the script with my cast and crew and only after they are satisfied do I sign them. Im sure there will be no room for difference of opinion later. But if any of them have a suggestion, I listen to them. However, I do not follow their suggestions mindlessly.
