I aim to plant 1 crore saplings: Vivekh
Actor Vivekh, who has been shooting in Pollachi for the last one week for his upcoming film Appa Takkar, recently dropped in to namma Coimbatore for a noble cause. The Yennai Arindhaal actor, was in the city to carry out a tree plantation programme, a cause close to his heart. Under the guidance of the former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam, I have been doing this green initiative.

My aim is to plant 1 crore sapling in Tamil Nadu. I started the drive in 2010 and I have already planted 25 lakh saplings. It could take two or five years to achieve the target. So, I am getting involved in the process whenever I find time. I am primarily including students from schools and colleges for the cause. In Tirunelveli and Tuticorin, however, I have planted 5.5 lakh saplings with the help of the villagers.
Since there is a lot of emphasis on planting indigenous fruit trees of late, is Vivekh also following the same strategy? Not really! I am concentrating on trees that provide shadow and aid in global warming reduction, but at the same time, require less maintenance. For instance, vembu, jack fruit and vaagai.
As the conversation veers towards his role in director Surajs Appa Takkar, Vivekh says, I play a special character called Vettaiyan as the one I did in Padikkathavan. I appear in the second half of the film. I cant disclose anything further but I can assure that my character will create a lot of expectations among the audience. I shot for a week in Pollachi along with Jayam Ravi and Trisha at a palatial house in the Singanallur village. It was a great experience. I have also wrapped up the shoot for Vai Raja Vai and Kashmore.
