After impressing the fans with romantic directorial and heartwarming characters, SJ Suryah decided to try his luck as a music director. He made his debut as a composer with the Marathi film 'Ishq Wala Love'. Although he debuted with Marathi film he became an independent music director with his directorial 'Isai'.

SJ Surya often made special appearances and cameo roles in films. And it was Karthik Subbaraj, who decided to cast him in a fully-fledged character. Karthik Subbaraj’s film 'Iraivi' brought out the acting skills in SJ Surya. Following that he started receiving several offers and showcased his acting chops.
