After playing a supporting role in Mani Ratnam's 'Thalapathi', Aravind Swamy played the lead role in the director's next release, 'Roja," to make his debut as a hero. 'Bombay'

Aravind Swamy teamed up with Mani Ratnam for the third time for 'Bombay," and it is again a romantic drama from the duo. But this time the romance is between a Hindu boy and a Muslim girl and the consequences they face in life after eloping from home to get married. 'Thani Oruvan'

After being on and off from films post-2000, Aravind Swamy made a strong comeback with the 2015 Tamil film 'Thani Oruvan," and he played the villain in the film. Aravind Swamy's impressive performance as an antagonist made him score on par with the film's hero, Jayam Ravi, while the suspense thriller turned out to be one of the biggest hits in Tamil. 'Bhaskar Oru Rascal'

Despite several offers to play a villain, Aravind Swamy opted to remake Mamooty's 'Bhaskar the Rascal' in Tamil, with the remake version titled 'Bhaskar Oru Rascal'. Aravind Swamy played a rugged character in the film, which was directed by Siddique, and the film had Amala Paul as the female lead. 'Thalaivii'

Directed by AL Vijay, 'Thalaivii' is inspired by the life story of veteran actress and politician J Jayalalithaa. Kangana Ranaut played the lead role as Jayalalithaa in the biopic, while Aravind Swamy played MJR (the altered name of MGR). Replicating the veteran actor and politician MGR, Aravind Swamy looked perfect in his role. He also made the audience relive some memories of the former through his impressive role.
