Gautham Vasudev Menon to Nelson Dilipkumar: Kollywood directors who made a strong comeback after a failure

Rajinikanth's Jailer has been released in theatres and the movie has been receiving a lot of attention and positive reviews. Director Nelson Dilipkumar has been critically acclaimed for making a good movie with a star cast and the film has reportedly made a gross of Rs 72 crore on day 1 at the box office worldwide. The movie is the highest Tamil grosser of 2023 and it surpassed all other Tamil films that was released this year. The movie is basking in success and here is a list of Tamil film directors who made a strong comeback after they faced a failure!

Nelson Dilipkumar

Nelson Dilipkumar previously directed Beast starring Vijay. Though the film received mixed response it was commercially successful. Jailer was important for Nelson Dilipkumar to make a strong comeback and he had risked his chance with the superstar actor Rajinikanth and it has now given him a strong hold. Director Nelson during the film's audio launch revealed that actor Rajinikanth did not even ridicule him once over the failure of Beast.

Gautham Vasudev Menon

Gautham Vasudev Menon last directed the film Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu featuring Simbu in the lead role. The movie was a huge success and before that Gautham's feature film Enai Noki Payum Thota starring Dhanush was not received well. Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu portrayed the director's different style of movie making and he is now all set for the release of his long delayed Dhruva Natachathitam starring Vikram.

Venkat Prabhu

Venkat Prabhu's films are family entertainers and the director's last film Custody did not run well at the box office. Before that his films Maanaadu and Manmadha Leelai were a success. Now his next film is Thalapathy 68 and it is expected that Venkat Prabhu will give a commercial hit with Vijay's next. Venkat Prabhu's style of filming has been constant and his alternate movies have become huge blockbusters.

Karthik Subbaraj

Karthik Subbaraj last directed the film Mahaan starring Vikram, Dhruv Vikram, Bobby SImha and Simran. The film was directly released on OTT and it received negative reviews. He is now directing Jigarthanda double X which is a sequel to his film Jigarthanda. It is believed that Jigarthanda Double X starring Raghava Lawrence and SJ Suryah will be a major success for the director.
