The Tamil film 'Annapoorani' was released in theatres on December 1, 2023. Directed by Nilesh Krishnaa, the film stars
Nayanthara,
Jai and
Sathyaraj in lead roles. The movie marks the 75th film of the actress and it was special to her. The movie after its release underperformed at the box office but it faced a lot of controversy after its digital premiere on Netflix.
The movie was removed from the online platform after facing severe criticism for promoting anti - Hinduism.
The complaints from the Hindu groups on hurting religious sentiments were widely spread and these allegations made the digital platform remove the film from viewing.
Actress Nayanthara took to social media last night to make an official statement. The actress said that the film was made with a thought to uplift and inspire and not to cause any distress. The actress also apologised and said that being a person who believes spirituality, she would not promote any hate against religions.
But responding to her apology statement, the fans of the actress asked her why she had to agree to the complaints and baseless allegations of her spreading hate crime and
Love Jihad. Fans also questioned her move stating that it was unnecessary. Netizens said that they expected the actress to back the film by standing up for it.
Many also pointed out that the film 'Annapoorani' was already certified by the censor board and there was no logic for removing the film from the OTT platform as it hurts the "religious sentiment of a section of people."
