Durai Senthilkumar admits script mistakes in ‘Kaaki Sattai,’ ‘Kodi,’ and ‘Pattaas’; 'Leader' director says 'I’m not satisfied with changes'

Director R. S. Durai Senthilkumar is preparing for the release of his next film 'Leader,' starring Legend Saravanan in the lead role. The film hit theatres worldwide on April 3 and has already created buzz among audiences. Recently, the music and action teaser launch event for the film was held grandly in Chennai, with several film personalities and fans present. During the film's promotion, Durai Senthilkumar spoke openly about his filmmaking journey and reflected on some mistakes he felt he made in his earlier films.

Director admits creative regret in ‘Kaaki Sattai’

Speaking about his past work, Durai Senthilkumar candidly admitted that he has some regrets about certain creative decisions. While discussing 'Kaaki Sattai,' as per Movies Tamil, he explained that the script was initially written as a serious film. However, things changed later when the film was made with Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role. “When I wrote the film for Dhanush sir, it was in a serious tone. But after it went to Sivakarthikeyan sir, we added Manobala sir’s character. I’m not satisfied with that decision,” he said. He added that many people suggested presenting Sivakarthikeyan in a more entertaining style after the success of 'Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam,' which influenced the script change.

Filmmaker reflects on mistakes in ‘Kodi’, ‘Pattaas’ and ‘Garudan’

Durai Senthilkumar also spoke about his experience working on 'Kodi' starring Dhanush. He admitted that he could have written the climax better. “I thought I could work on the climax after the initial shoot, but we finished the double-action scenes quickly. Dhanush sir was available and wanted to complete the film,” he said. The director added that the mistake was not on the actor’s side. He also reflected on his later films. “In ‘Pattaas’, the commercial route and some script changes were things I feel I could have avoided,” he said. Talking about 'Garudan,' he mentioned that the film had to be completed within 70 days, which left little time for corrections, though he was still happy with the final result.

As Durai Senthilkumar looks ahead, his focus is now on 'Leader,' which marks an important project in his career.
