Actors should not do social service: Ameer

Ameer was a chief guest at the audio launch of Maayanadhi
The audio launch of

Maayanadhi

, starring Abisaravanan and Venba, took place this morning. The film has music by Ilaiyaraaja's daughter Raja Bhavatharini, and her brother Yuvan Shankar Raja and director Ameer were the chief guests for this event.

Speaking at the launch, Ameer said, "There are many

actors

who are doing

social service

these days. But it is not good for them. Here, service is different from politics. But when you do something for the public good, your chances are taken away. I myself have experienced this. The problem with Tamil Nadu is that cinema is what is governing the place. But cinema has not progressed at all. There are many in cinema who aspire to be the next MGR. The people who were with

MGR

and Kalaignar managed to get things done for themselves, but they did not do anything in return for cinema.

Kalaignar built MGR Film City. Jayalalithaa came and changed its name. Film people should have disapproved and requested Jayalalithaa to not do it. They didn't. So, when Kalaignar came back to power, he gave half of that land to Tidel Park. Similarly, he set aside land to be granted for workers in the film industry, but that project, too, didn't happen. I think the government is hesitating to award artistes because two big stars are trying to enter politics. But Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami need not fear, because he hits every ball that is thrown at him. I request him to ensure that the awards are given."
