Yogi croons Kannada version of Kolaveri Di

The actor records a new interpretation of the hit soup song
Yogi croons Kannada version of Kolaveri Di
Ever since he entered the industry, actor Yogi has often been called as Sandalwood’s Dhanush. And now, it looks like the actor is truly set to live up to this comparison with his Kannada rendition of Dhanush’s latest chartbuster Kolaveri Di. And Yogi took just two hours to record the track titled Kaali Roadu, Onti Girlu, Reddu Lipsu, Kaili Booksu.
The song will be featured in his latest film Kalaya Tasmayi Namaha directed by Chandrashekar Srivastava and music by Neil.

“The song is inspired by Dhanush’s hit Why this Kolaveri Di? Chandrashekar was floored by the song the minute he heard it and wanted to do something similar for our film. A week ago, he asked me to come to the studio and said that he wanted some audio clips of mine. I thought he wanted something in terms of dialogues and rushed to the studio. But when I got there, he said he wanted me to sing,” says Yogi, adding, “I am not a great singer. But Chandrashekar was ready with the lyrics which he had just written and Neil had some amazing beats at hand. The lyrics were appealing. And since Neil knows that I’m not professionally trained, he ensured that there is no raaga or taala in the song. So I didn’t have to bother about getting the nuances right.”
While this is Yogi’s first playback attempt, friends of the actor vouch that he is a good rapper and is known to frequently jam with friends in marathon rap sessions. “When the Kolaveri track hit the internet, my friends told me that I could easily bring out a similar song. I brushed the suggestion off because I don’t have a good voice. Four days later, I recorded the Kannada version of the song,” laughs Yogi.
The actor says that he’d be thrilled if the original ‘soup boy’ Dhanush were to listen to Yogi’s version and maybe even appreciate his effort. “We’ve made a making of the song video. I’m not expecting the kind of popularity Dhanush has got with his song. I will be happy if people in Karnataka hum Kaali Roadu,” he signs off.
