The comedy in my film will be subtle: Venu
If courage to experiment, willingness to examine one’s work, and honesty are all considered the traits of an achiever, then actor-turned-director Venu Aravind is definitely one.
Venu, who has had a long stint in television and been a part of several successful serials before turning to films, presents facts as they are — be it about himself or his debut film Sabhash Sariyana Potti (SSP).
1x1 polls

Talking in a soft, but firm voice, he begins, “Everybody has aspirations and dreams. I’ve just taken two people’s dreams and travelled through them in my film. While one of the two important characters is an actor, the other is his fan. Jayaram plays the actor’s role, and a new comer called Sriram Karthik has played the fan. The reason I chose Sriram for the fan’s role was because I wanted the character to look naïve. Sriram has a typical, south Indian Tamil look and will be easily accepted by the Tamil audiences. The story has been told in a light vein and you could classify it under the drama-comedy category.”
Does that mean there is no heroine? Says Venu, “If you call the person who marries the hero as the heroine, then yes, there is a heroine. The heroine of my film is not of the regular kind. Anjana Thamburaati, an architect from the US, has played the role of the heroine. She plays the role of a married woman.”
Comedy is considered to be one of the most difficult genres to handle. Naturally, when Venu says SSP is bound to have humour in it, one is curious to know about its kind.
Says he, “The comedy will be tongue-in-cheek and very subtle.” It’s evident that that category of comedy requires class and finesse and Venu seems to have what it takes to deliver a product that has both. However, what guarantees does he have that everybody in the audience will be able to get the joke? Replies Venu, “Frankly, I don’t know how it’s going to reach all the people. However, when they watch it a second time, they will be able to appreciate the niceties of the film.” Music for SSP is by Thaman, who, Venu feels, has done a great job.
The title of the film suggests that there is a contest in it. Is there one? Venu admits, “Yes, there is a contest between the two most important characters. But you will have to watch the film to know what it is and who wins it.”
