Producer, financier, doctor and above all Pooja Gandhi’s best friend. But not any more because a couple of months ago Kiran and Pooja had their first big spat, a prelude to the bigger blows to affect their friendship. Kiran says that their friendship has been deteriorating since then, “and the recent controversy has only strengthened my resolve in not renewing my ties with her.” “At the beginning of this controversy, Pooja claimed that she didn’t know me.
When the records of her house agreement being in my name were made public, she accepted that my wife and I were acquaintances,” he says. But was he dating Pooja? “Seeing Pooja? No way! I’m happily married. We were friends but never in a romantic relationship,” he adds.
Kiran reminisces the time when he was first introduced to her. “My wife Sharadha and I met Pooja at a function right after the success of Mungaru Male. She was new in the city and she and her mother were on the lookout for a house. I found them one in Bhuwaneshwarinagar, the agreement of which was in my name,” explains Kiran. “Soon her contacts grew and Pooja made new friends. But I didn’t like the circle she was moving in. Gradually, her career too began to nosedive and once again I came to her rescue. I introduced her to my friend R Chandru who was set to direct Taj Mahal at that time. The movie did well and Pooja’s career got a second lease of life,” shares Kiran. She then did a couple of forgettable films and Kiran once again stepped in and influenced director Dayal to sign both Pooja and her younger sister Radhika for a film titled Harikathe. The film tanked.“An Andhra-based director meanwhile, approached me to suggest a heroine for his film. I suggested Pooja and that’s how she starred in Nee Illade. I financed the movie and Pooja was also a partner,” Kiran tells us. Meanwhile the actress, he adds, started becoming a regular face at social dos and it was at one such party that a video of Pooja and a hero in an intimate pose was taped. “It would have made its way to a channel but I stopped it from being aired to protect her reputation.” He continues, “When I advised her she didn’t take it in the right spirit. I then stopped backing Nee Illade, after which the shooting stopped and Pooja blamed me for the lull in her career.”Kiran claims that Pooja bad-mouthed him to such an extent that she influenced even his friends. “I cut off all contact with her. When the cops came home after her car accident, I was livid. Further, many people told me how she was back stabbing me and that prompted me to send her a series of messages last Saturday,” says Kiran. Pooja’s father Pawan also called and abused him, Kiran tells us. “In spite of Pooja’s complaint, the cops have refused to arrest me because my messages, which she claimed were threatening, didn’t mean any harm. Now I will fight her in court for falsely accusing me.”
