With rumours doing the rounds that soon television celebrity Sanjeeda Sheikh will be entering into Pollywood, we can’t help but notice that a lot of current day’s Punjabi actresses started their career from the small screen. Read on to know about the Punjabi cinema’s beauties who, before becoming a face of the film industry, rose to fame via television shows.

Surveen Chawla

Surveen Chawla, the girl who made her Pollywood debut with Punjabi cinema’s superstar Jimmy Sheirgill, is our first pick for the category. Way before entering into Punjabi films, Surveen was part of a popular daily soap. As a matter of fact, she did quite some shows before she finally bagged her first Pollywood project ‘Dharti’, which released in 2011. Surveen was highly appreciated for her work in ‘Dharti’, and post that she became a popular face of Punjabi industry. Some of her Punjabi projects are ‘Taur Mittran Di’, ‘Saadi Love Story’, ‘Singh vs Kaur’, ‘Lucky Di Unlucky Story’ and ‘Disco Singh’.

Sargun Mehta

Sargun Mehta started her acting career in the year 2009 with a very famous television soap opera. The show helped her gain a lot of popularity on the small screen. Later, she was roped in for one of Punjabi cinema’s amazing movies ‘Angrez’. Starring opposite Amrinder Gill, Sargun had a central role in the movie. ‘Angrez’ set the cash register ringing at the box-office and became one of the highest grossing Punjabi films of 2015. After this amazing start, the diva worked in a couple of other Punjabi projects that eventually gave her all the more fame in the industry.

Kavita Kaushik

Kavita Kaushik made her Pollywood debut last year with ‘Vekh Baraatan Challiyan’, opposite Binnu Dhillon. However, way before the Punjabi cinematic world found out her talent, she rose to fame as ‘Chandarmukhi Chotala’, a female cop on a popular comedy serial. Her popular Haryanvi character is what made her gain a lot of recognition.

This year Kavita Kaushik will be giving two back to back Punjabi movies. First, she will be featuring in Gurdas Maan’s much-awaited project ‘Nankana’, which is slated to release on July 6 and then just a week later, on July 13 she will hit the theatres with ‘Vadhaiyan Ji Vadhaiyan’, starring opposite Binnu Dhillon.

Lovey Sasan

The very beautiful Loveleen Kaur Sasan a.k.a Lovey Sasan started her Pollywood journey just this year. She featured in Punjabi cinema’s one of the most highly anticipated movies - ‘Subedar Joginder Singh.’ Before stepping into the film industry, Lovey was a popular television face. She worked in a couple of soap operas that fetched her remarkable fame.

Kulraj Randhawa

Just like Surveen Chawla, Kulraj Randhawa also bagged her first Punjabi movie opposite Jimmy Sheirgill. Released in 2006, ‘Mannat’ opened the doors to Pollywood for Kulraj. But her doors to the glam world were open by a television show that started in 2004.
