Vikramjeet Virk: Maybe, in the next five years, we will be making films that are loved pan India - Exclusive

Punjabi actor Vikramjeet Virk, who recently made it to the big screen with his film ‘Maurh’ sat with ETimes for a candid cup of conversation, where he spoke about Pollywood, its growth, and the films that changed the game for the industry for good. He opened up about the factors that have been contributing to the changing face of Punjabi cinema.

Here are the excerpts from the conversation:

2/4

The growth of Punjabi cinema

“I think Punjabi cinema has changed in the last decade. The quality of content that is being showcased is phenomenal. A new and unique approach towards cinema, different perspectives, and different sides of society are shown. A film like ‘Maurh’ for example, tells us about the freedom struggle and showcases how the society was in that particular period. Also, the point to note is that the director showed it so authentically. The most important part is the audience is ready for new and innovative content. The audience has changed and so is the presentation.”

3/4

Movies that changed the game for Punjabi cinema

“There are a lot of films that have been released in the past few years that have changed the game for Punjabi cinema. Be it ‘Angrez’, ‘Qismat’, ‘Jatt & Juliet’, ‘Punjab 1984’, ‘Rab Da Radio’, ‘Daana Paani’ or ‘Maurh’. Their performances, storytelling, and cultural significance, which they have successfully portrayed, have made Punjabi cinema known to everyone and the kind of content which is produced in the industry.”

4/4

Pollywood in the next five years

“In the next five years, I see Punjabi cinema reaching great heights, and maybe, in the next five years, we will be making films that are loved pan India. Portraying stories of Punjab and the culture of Punjab across India.”
