Top Punjabi actresses who enjoy equal fame in South cinema

There are some Punjabi divas, who didn’t only paint Pollywood with their sheer acting talent and excellent performance, but have even made their name in the South film industry. On the same hand, there are some actresses who started their career with South Indian movies, but currently are more popular as Punjabi actresses. Now call it tomato or tomahto, the fact remains the same that they are Punjabi actresses who enjoy equal fame in South cinema as well. Wish to know about them? Scroll down.

2/6

Sonam Bajwa

Sonam Bajwa made her debut in Pollywood in the year 2013 with ‘Best Of Luck’. In the year followed she gave one of her most successful Punjabi movies ‘Punjab 1984’ and also made her debut in Tamil cinema with ‘Kappal’. It was a romantic comedy drama with which Sonam Bajwa made a point, that not just in Punjabi, she can rock any part in other regional cinemas as well. As a matter of fact, in 2016, she made her Telugu debut as well, with ‘Aatadukundam Raa’. It was from the genre of action romance, and Sonam proved her mettle there as well.

3/6

Wamiqa Gabbi

Before making it to Punjabi movies, Wamiqa Gabbi used to play small roles in Bollywood projects. In 2013, with ‘Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22’, Wamiqa made her way to Pollywood as the female lead. Thereafter she did a couple of more Punjabi movies, and later in 2015 signed her debut Telugu film ‘Bhale Manchi Roju’. It was a crime comedy that fetched the actress her recognition in the industry. In the year followed, i.e. in 2016, she made her Tamil debut as well with ‘Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam’. And there was no stopping this girl, as a year later in 2017, with ‘Godha’ she made her Malayalam debut. Her last outing in the South was ‘Nine’ and she still has two of her Malayalam movies in the pre-production phase.

4/6

Payal Rajput

With the Pankaj Batra directorial ‘Channa Mereya’, Payal Rajput came into the Punjabi film industry. After the success of the same, she tried to open her options in other regional cinemas as well. She made her Telugu debut in 2018 with ‘RX 100’, and also did cameo parts in a couple of Telugu films. Even as of now, the ‘Mr & Mrs 420 Returns’ star has three Telugu movies and one Tamil film in her kitty.

5/6

Aditi Sharma

The ‘Angrej’ fame Aditi Sharma was one of the Punjabi actresses who came from South to North. She did three Telugu movies before she made her way to Pollywood. However, from the time she ventured into Punjabi cinema, she didn’t look back. She so far has done five Punjabi movies, and has proved her mettle in the industry. Also, though she hasn’t recently done any South movie, the actress has an image in the industry.

6/6

Kainaat Arora

Just like Aditi, Kainaat Arora also started her career from south movies. Her first appearance in a Tamil film was a cameo part, and then she was seen playing the lead in the Malayalam movie ‘Lailaa O Lailaa’. Thereafter in 2015 she made her way to Pollywood via ‘Faraar’, and her upcoming next is ‘Kitty Party’. Again, just like Aditi, the actress as of now doesn’t have a south project in hand, but her fan base in the respective regional cinema is very much intact.
