​Binnu Dhillon

Binnu Dhillon is currently counted among the most bankable stars of the Punjabi entertainment world. However, did you know that it was very late in his career that he was able to grab a movie that had him in the lead role? He entered the world of Punjabi cinema 2007 and it wasn’t until 2012 and 2013 that he started getting more screen space. Irrespective of getting more spotlight in the movies, he used to feature in mostly multi-starrer films that didn’t have him in the lead. But gradually with movies like ‘Naughty Jatts’, ‘Channo Kamali Yaar Di’, ‘Vekh Baraatan Challiyan’, he today is doing movies that star him as the male protagonist. And the rest is history!

Ammy Virk

The ‘Qismat’ fame actor Ammy Virk is one of the contemporary Punjabi actors who is gradually spreading his wings to touch the horizons of Bollywood. With movies like ‘Nikka Zaildar’, ‘Bambukaat’ and not to forget ‘Qismat’ the actor has proved his mettle in the industry. However, in his debut movie ‘Angrej’, Ammy Virk didn’t play the lead role. He essayed a supporting yet important character that helped him catch the attention of the filmmakers and thus in no time he was able to get titular roles.

​Ranjit Bawa

From serious drama to comedy flicks, Ranjit Bawa has done a number of genres in a very short span of time. However, did you know his first role in Punjabi cinema was not of a male protagonist? Ranjit Bawa bagged his first role in Pollywood with Priyanka Chopra’s first Punjabi production venture ‘Sarvann’. The lead in the movie was played by Amrinder Gill and Ranjit Bawa was essaying a very notable part in the supporting cast. However, since then there’s no looking back for the actor. Though he still doesn’t mind playing supporting roles, he always makes sure his character has a substance to it.

​Kulwinder Billa

Punjabi singer turn actor Kulwinder Billa made his debut as the male protagonist last year with the movie ‘Parahuna’. However, it wasn’t ‘Parahuna’ that marked his debut in Punjabi Cineworld, but the same year released ‘Subedar Joginder Singh’. The latter was a multi-starrer movie having Gippy Grewal playing the titular role. In an exclusive word with ETimes, Kulwinder Billa himself admitted that he wanted to do a supportive character to mark his debut and was glad that he could be a part of a period drama. Post that he bagged ‘Parahuna’ and in 2019 he has two movies as the lead - ‘Television’ and ‘Parauneya Nu Dafa Karo’.

Jordan Sandhu

Just like Kulwinder Billa, Jordan Sandhu also made his first cinematic appearance last year in ‘Subedar Joginder Singh’.He too was one of the soldiers of the Subedar’s Sikh army in the movie. And now this year, i.e. in 2019 he kick-started his journey as a male protagonist with ‘Kaake Da Viyah’, and later he was seen as a second lead in ‘Kala Shah Kala’. Further, next in line for him is ‘Gidhar Singhi’.
