Marathi films remade in other languages

The film industries have been remaking films from various other industries for ages now. One industry that has inspired and given many blockbusters is none other than the Marathi film industry. Due to the content richness of Marathi films, many from the Bollywood are attempting remakes. Here is a list of few Marathi films which have been remade in Bollywood.

'Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi'

Sachin Pilgaonkar directed 'Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi' and had Sachin himself teaming up with other prominent Marathi actors like Ashok Saraf and Laxmikant Berde to give the audience a laugh-riot. 'Paying Guests' was a remake of this film which starred Shreyas Talpade, Javed Jafferi, Aashish Chaudhary, Vatsal Sheth, Celina Jaitly, Neha Dhupia and Riya Sen in leading roles.

'Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai'

Satish Rajwade directorial hit 'Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai', which starred Mukta Barve and Swwapnil Joshi was remade in Hindi as 'Mumbai Delhi Mumbai' in 2014, featuring Shiv Pandit and Pia Bajpai. It was directed by Satish Rajwade who also helmed the original film.

'Timepass'

The teenage love story 'Timepass' by Ravi Jadhav starred Prathamesh Parab and Ketaki Mategaonkar. It was remade in Telugu as 'Andhra Pori'. It featured Uttej, Srikanth and Sreemukhi in lead roles directed by Raj Mudhiraj. When cupid strikes the very first time it sees no class or caste barrier. The story is all about how the love doesn't remain "timepass" anymore, it's a family entertainer and the remake did equally well.

'Lai Bhaari'

'Lai Bhaari' marked Riteish Deshmukh's acting debut in Marathi films. It was directed by Nishikant Kamat and the film was a blockbuster hit. Somewhat along the lines of a Rohit Shetty action film, 'Lai Bhaari' was a perfect family entertainer with a dose of action, comedy and drama. It was remade in Odia as 'Jaga Hatare Pagha', featuring Anubhav Mohanty, directed by Murali Krishna. This romantic drama did well at the box office as well.

'Mitwaa'

Swapna Waghmare Joshi directorial 'Mitwaa', featured Swwapnil Joshi, Sonalee Kulkarni, Prarthana Behere. The romantic story featured a love triangle between a rich businessman, his dearest friend and an employee. The film elaborated on the role of trust in a relationship and the necessity of a friend to be there for you in the time of need. This film was remade in Bengali 'Ami Je Ke Tomar', featuring Sayantika Banerjee, Ankush Hazra, Nusrat Jahan, directed by Rabi Kinagi. The remake turned out to be a hit.
