Marathi actors bag plum overseas projects

It is not just Bollywood that Marathi actors are restricting themselves to, as many of them are now heading towards Hollywood. Here are a few of the Marathi actors who recently landed plum roles in Indo-foreign and Hollywood projects.

Smita Tambe
Film: Umrika
Smita has bagged the lead role opposite 'Life of Pi' actor Suraj Sharma in this Indo-German production helmed by independent Indian filmmaker Prashant Nair and German producer-director Mathias Schwerbrock, who had earlier co-produced Shah Rukh Khan’s 'Don 2'. A story about a young Indian boy trying to find his older brother who set out for America, the film has recently been chosen for a screening at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition section. It also stars American actor Tony Revolori and Petra Korner is the cinematographer. “Traditionally, India had never been a co-production market, but that is changing,” Schwerbrock told the media at a recent press conference.

Usha Jadhav
Film: Salt Bridge
Usha will be seen playing a prominent role in 'Salt Bridge', an Indo-Australian project directed by Abhijit Deonath. The film stars actress Chelsie Preston of shows like 'The Code' and 'Underbelly' in the lead opposite Bollywood actor Rajeev Khandelwal. The film will be shot entirely in Sydney and Cranberra.

Film: Parched
'Parched', an US-Indian co-production, sees Radhika play one of the lead actress alongside Tannishtha Chatterjee and Surveen Chawla. The international production is spearheaded by actor Ajay Devgn and a Los Angeles based US entertainment firm. The movie dealing with misogyny and sexual repression against women will be directed by Leena Yadav who had directed Bollywood film 'Shabd'. Award winning DOP, Russell Carpenter who has shot 'Titanic', 'Jobs' and 'Charlie’s Angels' has been roped in as the cinematographer. The movie will be shot in Jaisalmer.

Film: The Letters (2015)
Kranti Redkar plays a nun in the Hollywood film, 'The Letters', directed by William Riead. The film is based on Mother Teresa’s letters and stars actor Olivia Hussey in a lead role. Kranti portrays the role of Deepa Amrish who transforms to Sister Gertrude. “Hollywood is very organized in its approach and for my part I closely observed nuns, their body language and behaviour,” Kranti said. The film has been shot entirely in Goa and has Hollywood actors Juliet Stevenson and Rutger Hauer and Indian actors Pravishi Das and Tillotama Shome.

Rajesh ShringarporeFilm: Seal Team Six: The Raid on osama Bin Laden (2012)
In this film, directed by John Stockwell and starring Hollywood actors Cam Gigandet, Jenny Gabrielle, Anson Mount and Freddy Rodriguez, Rajesh plays a CIA agent. The movie showcases a US Navy SEALs team storming a Pakistani compound where the dreaded terrorist Osama Bin Laden is hiding. It premiered in the US prior to the US presidential elections. “The film is about operation Laden, a mission to capture and kill Osama Bin Laden. I play Waseem, who heads the CIA team,” Rajesh said.
