Seven Marathi films to be screened at a film fest in Melbourne
The latest edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne has a remarkable lineup of Marathi films that has been shortlisted for special screenings, including some having their Australian premieres at the prestigious festival, which showcases the best of Indian cinema. These captivating films highlight filmmakers' diverse storytelling and cinematic brilliance in the region. Among the seven selected Marathi films, 'Aatmapamphlet' has even received a nomination for the Best Indie Film at the festival from its festival jury, which includes Oscar winning filmmaker Bruce Beresford, the director of Driving Miss Daisy.
'Against the Tide' (Documentary Film), 'Viral' (Short Film), 'Ghaath' (Feature Film), Rekha (Short Film), Follower (Feature Film), 'Aatmapamphlet' (Autobio-Pamphlet) (Feature Film), and 'Vaat' (Feature Film) are the seven films that will be screened at the fest.
Directed by Ashish Avinash Bende, 'Aatmapamphlet', is a thought-provoking feature film that delves deep into the human psyche and the concept of self-discovery. It features Om Bendkhale, Pranjali Shrikant, Bhimrao Mude, Ketaki Saraf, and Paresh Mokashi.
'Follower', which is directed by Harshad Nalawade, is an edge-of-the-seat thriller that takes the audience on a thrilling ride through unexpected twists and turns. The film stars Raghu Prakash, Donna Munshi, and Harshad Nalawade.
Shekhar Babu Rankhambe's 'Rekha' is an evocative short film that explores the complexities of human emotions and relationships. 'Ghaath', directed by Chhatrapal Ninawe, is a riveting feature film that weaves an intense tale on the fringes of central India's Maoist-affected jungles. Jitendra Joshi, Milind Shinde, Suruchi Adarkar, Janardan Kadam, and Dhananjay Mandaokar are starring in the film.
An enthralling short film in Urdu, Marathi, and Hindi language, 'Viral', directed by Shreyas Dasharathe, takes the audience on an emotional rollercoaster, exploring the power of the internet and its impact on modern relationships. The cast includes Harsh Rane, Ashitosh Gaikwad, and Hammad Siddiq as the protagonist.
'Against the Tide', written and directed by Sarvnik Kaur, is a gripping documentary film that delves into the lives of courageous individuals who dared to challenge societal norms.
Miransha Naik's compelling feature film 'Vaat', unravels the complexities of human desires and the consequences that follow. The film's cast includes Arjun Radhakrishnan, Raavi Kishor, and Deepti Devi.
These films have been carefully curated for their exceptional storytelling, cinematography, and performances. The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne aims to foster cultural exchange, promote diversity, and provide a platform for Indian filmmakers to showcase their work to an international audience between August 11 and August 20.
