​'Sarsenapati Hambirrao' to 'Jungjauhar': FIVE Marathi period dramas to look out for post lockdown

With the new normal setting in, the Marathi entertainment industry slowly getting back to work and celebs are resuming the shoot by keeping in mind the strict safety restrictions. Not only does Bollywood but also the Marathi film industry has an amazing lineup of films based on historical events.

Here’s taking a look at five Marathi period dramas to look out for post lockdown:

​'Jungjauhar'

Marathi cinema's historical enthusiast Digpal Lanjekar's upcoming periodic drama 'Jungjauhar' was announced before lockdown. However, now that norms are being eased, the makers are working on films post-production work.

'Jungjauhar' is based on the life of the well-celebrated legend of Baji Prabhu Deshpande, who was a commander of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The film sees Chinmay Mandlekar and Mrinal Kulkarni in key roles.

​'Sarsenapati Hambirrao'

Actor-director Pravin Tarde's upcoming historical film 'Sarsenapati Hambirrao' is the first Marathi film to kick-starts post-production work during the lockdown. The film 'Sarsenapati Hambirrao' is based on the life of an unsung warrior Hansaji Mohite, who was the military commander of the Maratha emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

It features stars like Gashmeer Mahajani, Raqesh Bapat and Shruti Marathe in key roles.

​'Chhatrapati Tararani'

Marathi cinema's ace filmmaker Rahul Jadhav is gearing up for his periodic drama 'Chhatrapati Tararani' based on the life of 'Queen of the Maratha' ( Chhatrapati Tarabai). While speaking to Etimes, filmmaker Rahul Jadhav revealed that he will kick-start shooting of the film once lockdown is lifted.

​'Paavan Khind'

After impressing one and everyone with his blockbuster film his debut directorial 'Ani...Dr Kashinath Ghanekar', is now set to steal the show with his upcoming historical film 'Paavan Khind'. The story will revolve around the brave night at Pavankhind when Bajiprabhu enabled the escape of Shivaji Maharaj from Panhala.

The shoot was halted due to the lockdown but 'Paavan Khind' team is all set to start with a new schedule post lockdown.

​'Baghtos Kay Mujra Kar 2'

After impressing the audience with his directorial debut film, 'Baghtos Kay Mujra Kar', the ace filmmaker is all set to take the audience on a historical ride with his upcoming sequel of 'Baghtos Kay Mujra Kar'.

Recently, on the occasion of 'Shivrajyabhishek', the makers unveiled the first poster from the film. While speaking to Etimes, director Hemant Dhome said "I started my work on the script during the lockdown. The idea of coming up with the sequel of 'Baghtos Kay... Mujra Kar!' was coined when our original was released in OTT platform and we got a good response from it. So, I think this lockdown has helped me to work on the sequel of 'Baghtos Kay... Mujra Kar"
