Amen hitmaker Prasanth Pillai goes on experimental mode again in Ezhu Sundara Rathrikal, with brilliant results. Two of the songs in the film make the music outstanding. Nakshathram Pol is a soft, soothing track with a gazal flavour but it has some kind of an appeal and freshness.
Koode Irikkam is a soulful track, with stunning vocals by Haricharan and Gayathri Asokan.
An Arab/Latino guitar backing makes it rather haunting. Ithu Jeevitham has a rock base and employs the voices of Karthik, Gowri and Charan Raj, but there is nothing unpredictable about it.
Pettidaam Aarum, the promo song, is experimentation at its best, and we hear something almost entirely unheard in Malayalam. The catchy, staccato sounds in the background make it quite addictive. The composer has employed saxophone and clarinet at intervals, all of which blend well into the song, sung by Aalaap Raju and Sankar Sharma. The song also has a quirky video, again an experimentation, which adds to the effect.
