Malayalam cinema saw a lot of action this week. From Mammootty sharing a throwback picture, to buzzing about him signing an upcoming Telugu movie, to Mohanlal announcing the theatrical release of ‘Drishyam 2’ and Suresh Gopi announcing his next, a lot of interesting news came from Malayalam cinema this week. Megastar Mammootty made headlines this week for a couple of things. The superstar shared a rare throwback picture of him with fans lately. The picture was taken five decades back, in 1971, when he faced the camera for the first time. The Megastar also made some buzz as reports are rife that he has signed to play the villain in Akhil Akkineni’s upcoming film ‘Agent’.

Mohanlal’s recent hit ‘Drishyam 2’ helmed by Jeethu Joseph was finally released on the big screens. The movie that had its digital world premiere in February was re-released in the cinemas in UAE, Qatar, and Oman. Phars Films Group has distributed the film in the UAE.

Biju Menon has signed his next. The actor will be playing the lead in an upcoming film based on Indugopan’s story Amminippilla Vettu Case. The film will be helmed by director-scriptwriter Sreejith. The team is planning to go on floors by the end of August if the situation is under control.

Sarath Appani of ‘Angamaly Diaries’ fame gets into filmmaking to ward off the pandemic blues. The actor has debuted as a director with ‘Monica’, a short movie series. The film is a slapstick comedy and features Sarath Appani’s wife Reshma in the lead role of Monica.

The action superstar of Mollywood, Suresh Gopi, left the fans awestruck by his avatar in an upcoming film tentatively titled ‘SG251’. The film is helmed by Rahul Ramachandran and Suresh Gopi has roped in to play the lead role of a 65-year-old watch mechanic from Kochi. The film is touted to be a revenge thriller.
