Throwback: When Mammootty said 'People won’t remember me after I am gone'

As Malayalam cinema’s legendary superstar Mammootty turns a year older today (September 7), fans and the film industry celebrate his unparalleled contributions. However, in a candid conversation during the promotion of his film Turbo, the actor shared an unexpectedly humble and emotional reflection on fame and legacy.

Speaking with Khalid Al Ameri, a popular YouTuber from the United Arab Emirates, Mammootty was asked how he wished to be remembered by the world after he was gone. In his typical grounded manner, the actor responded, “But how long will they remember me? One year? Ten years? Fifteen years? Finished. Don’t expect people to remember you till the end of the world. That won’t happen to anybody." His profound observation that only a select few are remembered forever, even among greats, highlighted his deep sense of realism and humility. Mammootty added, “I am one among thousands of actors. How can they remember me for more than a year? Once you are not in the world, how will you know about you?"
