Noted lyricist and music director Alleppey Ranganath is no more and tributes are pouring in from all around the corners of the film industry and from his fans. Alleppey Ranganath has never failed in infusing emotions among the audience with his magical music compositions coupled with well-thought-out and meaningful lyrics. Making his debut in the movie ‘Jesus’ which was released in the year 1973, Alleppey Ranganath has composed over 2000 songs in both Malayalam and Tamil, including devotional songs. Today, as the legendary music director left for his heavenly abode, let’s take a look at some of the memorable songs composed by Alleppey Ranganath.

Kaatil Kodum Kaatil

Music directors back in the day never tried to compromise on the lyrics of a song and Alleppey Ranganath is one among them. The song ‘Kaatil Kodum Kaatil’ will remain as one of the best songs in the Malayalam film industry both in terms of beautiful composition and meaningful lyrics. The song was composed for the super hit movie ‘Aaraante Mulla Kochumulla’ which was released in the year 1984 and the legendary singers KJ Yesudas and KS Chithra lent their magical voice for the song. The lyrics for the song were penned down by Madhu Alappuzha.

Hosana

Alleppey Ranganath made his debut in the film ‘Jesus’ which was released in the year 1973. The song ‘Hosana’ could be said as the breakthrough in his career and is undoubtedly one of the evergreen songs in the Malayalam film industry. The lyrics for the song ‘Hosana’ were penned down by Augustine Vanchimala and the singers were P Jayachandran, KP Brahmanandan, and P. Leela.

Shaleena Soundaryame

The song ‘Shaleena Soundaryame’ is yet another melodious track composed by Alleppey Ranganath for the movie ‘Aarante Mulla Kochumulla’. The video song features the actor Balachandra Menon listening to a music cassette reminiscing events from his past. The song ‘Shaleena Soundaryame’ is literally a guidebook on how to perfectly mix each musical instrument and song notes that could evoke emotions among the listeners.

Onnanam Mala mamarakkombil

The song ‘Onnanam Mala Mamarakkombil’ is composed like a lullaby with lyrics that could remind you of some folktales that you have heard during your childhood days. The song was composed by Alleppey Ranganath for the film ‘Principal Olivil’ which was released in the year 1985. The legendary singers KJ Yesudas and KS Chithra crooned the song whereas the lyrics were penned down by the late Bichu Thirumala.

Brahma Sangeethame

Although Alleppey Ranganath has composed several film songs, it was his devotional songs that soared his popularity among the audience. The song ‘Brahma Sangeethame’ is one of the songs with a devotional touch in it and was composed for the film ‘Kannezhuthi Pottum Thottu’ under the lyrics written by Prof. Mariamma Philip. The song was crooned by the popular singer Balagopalan Thampi.
