Remembering Sukumaran: Unforgettable performances of the thespian

It's been nearly 25 years since the Malayalam film industry has lost its gem, Sukumaran who breathed life into umpteen memorable characters with his unique style of acting. His presence is still visible in the Malayalam film industry as he has also gifted the young talents Prithviraj and Indrajith Sukumaran to the movie industry. Today, on Sukumaran’s 25th death anniversary, let's take a look at the unforgettable performances of the actor.

The character Sunny in KG George’s classic movie ‘Irakal’ could be said as one of the most overlooked performances of the veteran actor Sukumaran. Perfectly built characters are the specialty of ‘Irakal’ and Sukumaran gave a nuanced performance that really did justice to the character Sunny penned down by KG George.

Who can forget the fierce cop character DYSP Devadas in Mammootty’s investigation thriller ‘Oru CBI Diary Kurippu’? It is undoubtedly one of the best memorable performances of the actor Sukumaran and in the later installments actor Saikumar even adopted Sukumaran’s mannerisms flawlessly for playing the character DYSP Sathyadas.

The fierce character Korah in the Mammootty starrer classic movie ‘Kottayam Kunjachan’ is yet another magnificent performance of Sukumaran. The film was directed by TS Suresh Babu and the script was penned down by the writers Dennis Joseph and Muttathu Varkey.

Sukumaran played a chief minister character named KG Ramachandran in the action thriller movie ‘August 1’. Inspired by the British novel ‘The Day of the Jackal’, ‘August 1’ was directed by the veteran filmmaker Sibi Malayil and the script was written by the CBI fame writer SN Swamy. KG Ramachandran is also another memorable performance of the thespian Sukumaran.

The plight of a husband who last lost his wife could never be expressed more effectively than Sukumaran through his character Mathew Jose in the thriller movie ‘Utharam’. The investigative drama was directed by VK Pavithran and the story was penned by the veteran writer MT Vasudevan Nair.
