After a hiatus, Kollywood actress Ramya Krishnan is making a comeback of sorts to M-Town. She will be seen playing the role of a tough police officer in Driver on Duty. The movie will be a family entertainer set against the backdrop of a women’s police station. Asif Ali also plays an important role in the film — as a driver to the police women. “Remya will play the role of a tough SI, who hates men.
And Asif plays Ramakrishnan, the driver of the police station,” says director Manoj Paloden.
The director also adds that the film is inspired by the first all-women police station in Kerala. “Interestingly, the all-women police station in Calicut is the first all-women police station in Asia. Ramya’s character is based on a real-life character, Kuttiyamma, who was one among the first women police officers of Kerala,” says Manoj.
As the title suggests, the story revolves around the life of a driver amidst 11 women police officers. “The police station is an all-women territory devoid of male superiors, and the arrival of Asif’s character creates quite a stir. The interesting events that unfold following his arrival form the rest of the plot,” says Manoj, who has been an associate of director Saji Surendran. The rest of the cast is yet to be finalised. The movie will go on floor next year.
Ramya’s last outing in Malayalam was in the 2007 film, Ore Kadal, alongside megastar Mammootty.
