NFAI honours Adoor Gopalakrishnan as the ‘Face of the week’ on his birthday
Legendary filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan is celebrating his birthday today and the NFAI (National Film Archive of India) has honoured him, by making him the ‘Face of the Week’. NFAI will be showcasing and celebrating the magnanimous oeuvre of Adoor Gopalakrishnan throughout the week. Extending wishes to the iconic filmmaker, NFAI has shared a rare picture, taken during the filming of Adoor’s National Award-winning film ‘Kathapurushan’ released in 1995. In the picture, he is seen directing actor Mini Nair.
Taking to their social media handle, NFAI penned, “Birthday wishes to veteran filmmaker #FaceOfTheWeek #AdoorGopalakrishnan. He is acclaimed for revolutionizing Malayalam cinema during the 70s. Kerala's transition from feudalism to modernity serves as a backdrop to most of his films. He is seen here with Mini Nair during the making of Kathapurushan (1995). The film won the Best Film National Award for the remarkable portrayal of the growth of an individual born on the eve of Independence. The film gives an insight into the socio-political evolution of post-independent India through the individual with outstanding cinematic qualities and universal appeal.”
