National Award-winning filmmaker Apurva Asrani payed glowing tribute to Nivin Pauly-starrer

, in a tweet recently. “Moothon by Geetu Mohandas is poetry. Especially in the scenes depicting the passionate love story of the two leading men,” he posted. He also praised Nivin Pauly and Roshan Mathew for their “tender and sensitive performances”.

Critically acclaimed Moothon is about the search of a teenager from Lakshadweep for his older brother, played by Nivin Pauly, in Mumbai. It was the opening film of the last Mumbai Film Festival. The portrayal of the gay relationship, unusual for Malayalam cinema, had received good reviews.

Apurva Asrani’s Aligarh, portraying a gay relationship, has also won critical acclaim internationally.
