It was a busy week for the Malayalam cinema. From Prithviraj Sukumaran securing a part in Mohanlal’s maiden directorial venture, ‘Barroz’ to Kalyani Priyadarshan penning an emotional note upon wrapping up the shoot of ‘Hridayam’, here are who and what made headlines in Malayalam cinema this week.

The pre-production work for Mohanlal’s maiden directorial venture ‘Barroz: Guardian of D'Gama's Treasure’ is progressing. Prithviraj Sukumaran was spotted with Mohanlal during the discussions and fans were suspecting if he was a part of the film. To their surprise, Prithviraj Sukumaran shared a photograph of the cover of a script, that reads, ‘Shooting script supervisor's copy. Confidential, Raju's copy.” Although it is yet to know whether Prithviraj Sukumaran is part of the cast, it is certain that he has landed a spot in the team.

Kalyani Priyadarshan is playing the leading lady opposite Pranav Mohanlal in ‘Hridayam. She wrote an emotional note after completing her portions of the shoot. Kalyani recalled how cinema has influenced her growing up and shared that she got to work as passionately as her dad Priyadarshan while working on ‘Hridayam’. “The last two months, I got the chance to actually live out that exact dream of working like how acha did... with people who felt almost like family. It’s been some of the happiest days of my life. I’m going to miss every single person on set,” she penned.

Veteran Malayalam actress Jayabharathi got vaccinated recently. The actor took the COVID-19 jab this week and her nephew Munna Simon shared about it. “Happy to inform that my Aunt Jayabharathi got vaccinated. Thank you Kauvery Hospital Chennai. Let’s get vaccinated and stay safe,” Munna Simon shared on his Instagram post.

Pranav Mohanlal and Kalyani Priyadarshan starrer film ‘Hridayam’ called it a wrap today. The film is helmed by Vineeth Sreenivasan and upon announcing the pack up, he penned a note sharing his experience working with the team. He shared that it was ‘not an easy film to shoot’, but his entire team stood by him with ‘passion’. Vineeth also added that the shoot was planned for 100 days, however, they worked hard and were to wrap it up in about 60 days.

Filmmaker Jeethy Joseph has been making headlines for quite some time now and this week was no different. Sensational filmmaker SS Rajamouli shared his review on watching Jeethu Joseph’s ‘Drishyam 2’. The ‘Baahubali’ director shared that every craft of the film including direction, script, editing, and acting was ‘truly amazing’. He also referred to the film as ‘world standard’.
