Manoj K Jayan’s friendship song goes viral

After a long gap, actor Manoj K Jayan has crooned in Sugeeth’s Onnum Mindathe. The actor, who attempted playback singing in Saivar Thirumeni decades before the actors-turning-vocalists trend got kicked off, took out his singing skills again for a friendship song composed by Anil Johnson and penned by V R Santhosh.
The track that goes Tha… Thaka Thaka… and a video of its recording — in which Manoj can be seen rendering the song effortlessly —have gone viral online.
“The song’s recording was a lot of fun. Manoj was ready to go for repeated retakes to bring in maximum perfection,” says Sugeeth. Onnum Mindathe has Jayaram and Meera Jasmine playing husband and wife. In the movie, Jayaram’s and Manoj’s characters are best friends and the song comes in when they meet after a gap of eight years.
“What dominates is the feel of nostalgia in this track. Moreover, we needed to capture a natural feel through it without many sangathees. We had to retain the simplicity and the wow factor of the song. This is why we urged Manoj to sing the track and he did an awesome job,” says Sugeeth.
The actor, who is the son of renowned musician K G Jayan, has crooned for several stage shows.
