Pearle Maaney is a self-confessed Manju Warrier fan. Having grown up admiring the actress, Pearle now finds herself lucky to share screen space with her in Rojin Thomas’ Jo and the Boy. “I couldn’t control my excitement in the beginning. Once I completed my first shot with her, I jumped for joy and told her how much of a fan I am of hers. I asked her if I can hug her and she responded with a warm smile.
I just hugged her tightly!” says Pearle animatedly.
“Manju Warrier is a very positive, down-to-earth and warm person who makes the set brighter with her sunny smile,” says a visibly awed Pearle, adding, “When not in front of the arc lights, Manju chechi is just like any other person. She doesn’t have the ego we expect from a star, and used to come to us with doubts on gadgets. Every actor should imbibe the values she possesses.”
Pearle has “quite a good role” in Jo and the Boy, though she hesitates to reveal more about her character in it. However, the VJ-turned-actress has several combination scenes with Manju. “When she comes in front of the camera, she magically turns into the character. I was surprised to see the transformation. Working with her was a great learning experience for me,” she adds.
Jo and the Boy is set against the backdrop of the misty hills of Kodaikanal. “Since it is quite cool in Kodaikanal, it was like a vacation for the entire crew,” she signs off.
