Malayalam actresses who made a mark in the comedy genre

Charlie Chaplin is a legend because he made films that nobody else could replicate. His movies were a visual treat that transited any language barrier.

Comedy is a genre which is very difficult to make and present. But nowadays we have movies which are applauded for their 'instant dialogues' which have some connotations. That said, Malayalam films had a good number of comedians like Jagathy Sreekumar and Philomina who tickled the audience's funnybone just the same.

When it comes to comedy, not everyone has the knack of delivering an idea in a way that can get people roaring with laughter or even sinking into their silly characters. The number of artists who can be considered as comedians is not too many, especially not women, who tend to steer clear from such roles. But M-Town has a good number of actresses who excelled as comedians.

Here is a list of the Malayalam film industry's favourite female comedians and their best film works.

2/5

Philomina from 'Thalayanamanthram'

Actress Philomina was an artist who made her made her mark has in both the black and white era and during the dawn of coloured films. One of her best performances as a comedian is in the movie 'Thalayanamanthram.' Her role as Paruammayi in Sathyan Anthikkad's movie was much appreciated by all because of the innocence, flaws, strength and beauty of her character.

3/5

Sukumari from 'Vandanam'

Veteran actress Sukumari made her appearances in black and white films and slowly made her way to featuring in new age cinema. She had done notable supporting roles and characters in Mollywood, which she immortalised in her own style. Her role from the movie 'Vandanam' was one of her best as a comedian. Maggie aunty was a charmer throughout the movie.

4/5

KPAC Lalitha from 'Kanalkkattu'

One of the epic characters of KPAC Lalitha was from the movie 'Kanalkkattu', where she starred opposite Mammootty. Her character Omana made the audience cry and laugh at the same time. Her innocence throughout the movie was a characteristic which the audience could not ignore as they laughed heartily at those funny scenes. Her makeover as an artist and a character was really fascinating.

5/5

Bindu Panicker from 'Sreekrishnapurathe Nakshathrathilakkam'

Bindu Panicker's dialogues from the movie 'Sreekrishnapurathe Nakshathrathilakkam' are still trending memes. Her character of a wife from a small town, trying to adapt to modern life is beautifully portrayed in the movie. Her role as Indumathi is still one of the best performances in her career considering how her character got the audience laughing out loud with her faulty English sentences.
