“If

art

reflects life, it does so with special mirrors,” German Marxist dramatist Bertolt Brecht once said. And those special mirrors are shaped in a person, as a result of constant observation, connecting with the universe and resonating with its soul. Actor and danseuse Shobana is one of the rare personalities who hold the special mirror and her works draw inspiration from life and reflect it. When the entire globe was going through its tough times, Shobana used her special mirror, to not just reflect it, but also soothe the sufferings through her dance. On

International dance day

, let’s take a glimpse at how Shobana held the torch of hope, during the tough times.

Pushing the limits

Shobana has always used

dance

as a medium to express her soul. Born into a family of renowned dancers - The Travancore sisters - Lalitha, Padmini, and Ragini, dance was etched deep into the very existence of Shobana. While the world was dealing with the

pandemic

, Shobana used to dance to uplift them. “Stretch your limits…” Shobana said, posting this graceful picture of her.

Restoring the rhythm of life
When the lockdown and the new norms were giving a tough time, Shobana shared the message of enjoying the rhythm of life. The dancer shared this video of her and her students, incorporating dance into their daily chores and thereby restoring the rhythm. “We are all staying home yet are connected through the ART. Practicing, revisiting, creating - Dance around us. Let's Dance it Away! “ Shobana shared.

The actress also keeps sharing videos of her teaching the students. And in this video, she chose an outdoor venue to teach them. When Shobana is giving dance lessons to her students under the shade of a Banyan tree, we can’t help but praise her for reminding people of the need to stay close to nature and the immortality and peace the tree symbolizes. “This is the closest we could come to teaching under a Banyan tree
nevertheless, as they say ‘go with the times’,” Shobana captioned.

Good art is all about the takeaway

Shobana also shares impressive thoughts on her social media handle. In one of her posts, Shobana spoke about the ‘formula for good art’. She opened up that as an audience (rasika), she believes an art reaches its completion when it moves you, touches you. “Formula for GOOD ARTThere is none. Usually borne from intuition and presented honestly... to connect with the observer at an emotional and physical level. For me as a Rasika, it leaves me excited and words are not necessary... because the idea is not to understand art, it is to move us to alternate state of happiness .. or even sadness.” Shobana shared.
